Why Are So Many People Moving to Breck?

Have you noticed it’s become harder to get a table at Hearthstone on a Saturday night? Or maybe you’ve found yourself in traffic on Main Street – in the off-season? If you’re a longtime Breck resident and you feel like you have a bit less elbowroom than you used to, you’re not imagining things. Our population has more than doubled in the last 15 years, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2015 data.

Now, don’t get us wrong. Breck definitely isn’t overcrowded. With just under 5,000 residents, it still has that quaint, mountain town vibe that made us all want to move here decades ago. So, what’s with the population boom? Aside from the fact that it looks like the page out of a storybook, Breckenridge has so much to offer we’re going to have a hard time squeezing it all into one blog post.

Reason #1: Unbelievable skiing and snowboarding

Visitors who come here on their winter ski trips inevitably get swept up in the idyllic winter wonderland that defines Breckenridge. We see thousands of tourists come through our mountain town and dream about snatching up a piece of Summit County real estate for themselves. Over the years, many of them do!

Reason #2: Top notch shopping and dining

For a town that spans only a smidge over five square miles, Breck has a ton of fantastic shops, boutiques, bars and restaurants – almost 300, in fact! On Main Street alone you’ll find crepes, Italian food, ice cream, burgers, Irish pubs, vegetarian grub – you name it. Breckenridge Brewery is also nestled in the heart of downtown – a must-stop after a day on the slopes.

Reason #3: Community festivals and events

One of the things we love most about living in Breck is the close sense of community. Our town host countless events year round, including the International Snow Sculpture Championship (happening now!), Ullr Fest, Breckenridge Music Festival, Women’s Ski Week, Breckenridge Summer Beer Fest, Breckenridge International Festival of Arts, and so many more.

Reason #4: It’s a great place to retire

As the Baby Boomer generation begins to look towards retirement, we expect another influx of residents to our sleepy mountain town. Breckenridge is a great place to retire because it’s laid back, walkable, safe, and bicycle friendly. It also presents plenty of opportunities for staying active late in life!

Reason #5: Property values are off the charts (seriously)

With more and more people moving to Breckenridge, property values are steadily increasing. In January 2014, the median listing price for a home in Breck was $714,000. Last month, the median listing price was $1.26 million, according to realtor.com. The way the market is trending, homebuyers could see a really great return on their investments in years to come.

Lots of people are moving to Breck – will you be one of them?
