Prepare and serve a free meal to the community

St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Breckenridge serves a free meal every Tuesday evening to community members, neighbors and parishioners from 6-7 pm. The church needs volunteers for a variety of tasks, from cooking pans of food to picking up donations from local businesses. Recipes and pans are provided to cooks, if needed, and reimbursement is available. Volunteers sessions are from 5:30-7:30.  If you’d like more information, contact Nancy French at (303) 601-2635 or nkfrench@comcast.net.

Volunteer at FIRC Summit Thrift & Treasure to help support healthy families

FIRC, or the Family & Intercultural Resource Center, is a local organization set out to help families make healthy choices.  FIRC offers services in parenting education, emergency assistance, community support, a food bank and a thrift store.  The thrift store can always use volunteers to help run the store, and are welcome anytime during store hours.  By utilizing volunteers at the thrift stores, FIRC is able to keep costs low, which allows for more revenue to help support the emergency assistance and parenting education programs.  To sign up for volunteer shifts, or to learn more about FIRC, call (970) 455-0223 or send an email to anitao@summitfirc.org.

Pick up and deliver food donations

The Summit County Community and Senior Center is looking for gleaners this holiday season. Gleaners are volunteers who pick up food donations around Summit County and bring them to the Senior Center to be distributed to people in the community. The center is currently looking for substitutes to cover when primary gleaners are out of town. If interested, please contact John and Janet Young at (970) 485-5775.

Assist with adaptive ski and snowboard lessons

The Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC) relies on hundreds of volunteers to assist with adaptive ski and snowboard lessons at Breckenridge and Keystone Resorts. Volunteers are paired with a student and a lead instructor to spend a fun-filled day on the slopes. All skier and snowboarder volunteers are required to be a confident level 5 skier/snowboarder. Find more information on BOEC.org.

Volunteer for Summit Advocates for Victims of Assault

Offering both long term and short term volunteering opportunities, there is an opportunity for everyone at the Summit Advocated for Victims of Assault.  Long term volunteering includes 30 hours of  training and actual on-call response to crisis calls.  Short term volunteers help out with fundraisers, events and tasks around the office.   Contact Maria for more information on these rewarding volunteer opportunities at maria@summitadvocates.org or call her at the office (970) 668-3906.
